AhlulBayt News Agency: France and Saudi Arabia are advancing a post-war Gaza plan aimed at disarming the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, despite Hamas affirming that its weapons remain a “red line.”
According to informed sources cited by Western media, Paris and Riyadh are drafting a proposal to “disarm” the resistance movement and “pave the way for its demobilization.”
Saudi officials have reportedly engaged in talks with Hamas as part of this initiative. Anonymous sources suggested that allowing Hamas to retain some degree of political power could increase the likelihood of its disarmament.
“The objective is to transform the group into a purely political entity that can still play some role in future Palestinian governance,” the sources stated.
Although Hamas has expressed a willingness to step down from governance, it maintains that its weapons are non-negotiable.
Next month, a UN conference co-chaired by Paris and Riyadh will aim to revive the idea of a two-state solution.
In March, Arab leaders backed an Egyptian-proposed post-war Gaza plan focused on reconstruction and rejecting US and Israeli efforts to forcibly relocate Gaza’s population.
These developments come amid a new Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which seeks to bring the entire region under Israeli control.
Israel has rejected Palestinian statehood and refuses to allow the Palestinian Authority (PA) to return to Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Wednesday that ending the war in Gaza depends on implementing a displacement plan, in line with a controversial initiative introduced by US President Donald Trump earlier this year.
Trump announced in February that Washington intends to assume control over Gaza and expel its residents post-war.
During his recent visit to Persian Gulf Arab states, Trump reinforced his stance on Gaza, advocating for its transformation into a so-called “freedom zone.”
Meanwhile, European states, long considered close allies of Israel, have strongly condemned its ongoing offensive and restrictions on humanitarian aid.
Tel Aviv claims its latest military campaign aims to ensure the total “defeat” of Hamas and other resistance groups, despite failing to achieve this goal after 19 months of relentless operations.
Israeli military actions continue to claim Palestinian lives daily. On Thursday alone, Israeli soldiers killed nearly 110 Palestinians in Gaza.
Overall, approximately 16,500 Palestinian children have been killed since the start of Israel’s military campaign.
With US support, Israeli attacks have so far killed over 53,760 Palestinians and injured nearly 122,200 others, with women and children comprising most of the casualties.
Authorities in Gaza report that tens of thousands remain missing or buried under rubble, many with “disintegrated bodies.”
